India on Dec. 1, 2022 assumes the presidency of G20 which is a group of nineteen countries and the European Union. G20 comprises 80 percent of the world's GDP, 75% of global trade and 60% of the world population.

G20 comes together every year to discuss the world's major issues and challenges.  G20 came into existence in 1999 to meet and address the world's financial issues, but after the 2008 economic down-turn and recession the world faced and experienced, the agenda and goal of the G-20 has changed from mere an economic gathering.

Now, with India’s takeover of the presidency of this group, eyes are on India with raising the question whether or not India leads the world. To answer this question I will mention some immense capacity India has; India as the largest democracy has always been known for its soft power and non interference policy. India with neighborhood first policy has an essential place in its neighbor’s foreign policy.

India is going to be the most populous country in the world in the coming years, surpassing China. Youth plays an essential role in the society, India is among the youngest nations in the world with the potential of the youth, India is called a young country and on the rise.

India has been the hub for civilization, with a strong and stable economic power; India is a hope for the world and especially for the global south. India was the only country which has recovered from the economic down-torn post Covid-19 era. India’s role in the global south and world started years back when India decided to follow a free and independent path; it was when India along with other developing nations established the Non-Aligned Movement.

Assuming the presidency of a major group is not something new for India; India has proven its ability for leading the world and chairing major world’s organizations including the United Nation Security Council. India with membership in the world’s major organizations has played a very essential role in the world’s and regional matters. To mention some of the major organizations that India has membership in are UN, SAARC, BRICS, SCO and other world organizations.

With the raising and launching the policy of “A Self Reliant India” India is standing on its own feet to be self-reliant and it helps India to have a say in world matters and issues. India’s economy is stronger than before and is composed of its domestic consumers and it is going to help India to decrease its dependence on other countries in different sectors including weaponry and ammunition.

All the abilities and capacities that have been mentioned give India a free hand to choose the path of an independent India. With current major economic and political issues and challenges that the world is facing, India is on the testing path. With the rising inflation and economic down-turn the world is struggling with, the eyes of developing nations are on India. With being en-trusted by its neighbors and especially global south nations, India is being backed by its foreign policy internationally and politically savvy nation, domestically.

It’s a milestone and historic opportunity for India to lead the world; even though there are lots of challenges, from the Russian and Ukraine war to the rise of inflation and recession in the world. India always stands and supports the peaceful talk and negotiation and has always insisted on diplomacy as a soft power for solving the conflict and war.

India as land of Yoga, peace, harmony and integrity has always been a symbol and role model for the world. While Yoga is taking place in every corner of the world, India is where there is Yoga, peace and harmony.

To come to its importance, India will be a hope for the global south, with the wise leadership and firm foreign policy India will carry out this mission nicely and proudly. Because during the history of the world not so back at least after world war two, India has supported and was there for global south, a hope and staunch supporter of global south and issues related to it.

Another essential part of this magnificent caravan is the youth body of the G20 means Youth20 and fortunately as has been mentioned India is a young nation and with a young generation India will lead the world and this mission historically.

Since the takeover of the G20 presidency, in every corner of India and in every seminar, schools, and universities and in every Indian’s heart you see the discussion about the importance of this event and feel the feeling this historic event creates.

“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which means “One Earth, One Family, and One Future” is India’s motto and roadmap for the G20 presidency. India always believes in equal growth, equal rights and equal development in the world arena and is known for its policy for equal chance and growth for everyone. It’s in India’s identity and DNA and through the entire history of the world and India; India stands and supports a peaceful world and harmony for everyone. Gender equality and sustainable development are another big agenda on India’s G20 and development plans.

Climate change which India itself is a victim of developed nations unprecedented carbon emission would be on the table and from now on the policy maker and involved bodies are working on a clear blue-print to offer to the world for a better and durable life on earth.

Land of democracy and harmony is going to host and lead the world not only during the next one year of the presidency of this group, as it’s in its blood, India is getting ready to have answers and solutions for the bigger challenges and issues related to the global south and the world.

India will link the global south and global north through its visionary goals and firm foreign policy. To westernize everything is not going to solve issues related to the world, while the world and global south has India; it’s a proud moment to Bharatize and feel proud of India’s ability. India is on the rise and Baharat is again on the path to the pinnacle of hope and success.
