Mapping of Research Productivity on Plagiarism

Abstract This study reflects the quantitative measurement of 1102 articles appeared on ‘Plagiarism’ during 2021-2022. The paper presents the quantitative assessment of this area in terms of total publications; top keywords; top authors, institutions, country, language etc.. This paper reveals various latest trends of this area.

Introduction
Bibliometrics techniques are used to measure the quantitative aspect of any subject, institution, field.These studies helps to measure the annual growth of literature in any area. In the present era, everyone is talking about plagiarism as it is a growing menace in academia. Satija (2011) defined plagiarism as a snake that had not spared even legendary ‘Shakespear’ who had also alleged for plagiarism.The plagiarism related cases are increased due to use of advance technology and other media of communication.Bibliometric studies are used to measure the research output of a country, institute, an author and research in a specific subject area. Research articles are considered as the scholarly publication that produce a blue print of that subject.. This paper is an effort to attemt a bibliometric study to explore the various trends of publications on ‘Plagiarism’ during 2021 to 2022.
Aim of study 1. To findout source wise distribution of publications on plagiarism literature; 2. To findout top authors; country; institution; language and top cited articles in this area.
Review of Literature

Prajapati et al. (2021) in their study entitled “Mapping of Research Productivity on Green Building: A Bibliometric Study” examined   the productivity on this  topic from 2012 to 2021. The data was collected from the SCOPUS database. The study presented the the year wise distribution of publications,most productive authors,most productive journals, most preferred language and most productive country. Parmar and et al (2021) in their paper entitled “Reflections to Research Productivity of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana (India) from 2011-2020 : A bibliometric Analysis” reflects the total research output of KUK ;top contributed authors,most preferred journals by KUK etc.Bansal, Sonia (2019) in the study entitled “A Bibliometric analysis of Research Output on aromatherapy” has analysed quantitative assessment on aromatherapy during 2001 to 2015.The required data was derived from Pub Med database.

Methodology
For this study, data is collected for two years from Scopus database.The data was extraced using the following string “TITLE-ABSKEY ( plagiarism ) AND PUBYEAR >2020 AND PUBYEAR < 023 AND PUBYEAR 2020 AND PUBYEAR < 2023.
Analysis

1. Type of Source of Publications during 2021-2022

Table 1 highlights the  different categories of source which  produced the publication on plagiarism during the reserch period.It is  found that majority of publications produced  by the Journals (72.96%  ), followed  by conference proceedings (17.33%), Book series (7.89%  ), book (1.72%  ) and one publication appeared in trade journal.

2. Top Five Keywords

Table 2 presents the top five keywords used in these publications. The keyword “Plagiarism “ is found on top with 39.93% hits of total publications, followed by ‘Human’(14.34%) , ‘Intellectual property”(13.88%), ‘Plagiarism Detection’ (13.16%) and Publishing (10.25%).

Table 3 shows that on this subject, United States contributed highest publications with 12.70% output of total.India secured the second position with 10.44% contribution. A total of 42.20% was contributed by top five countries as reflected in the table.

4. Top Five Institutions

Table 4 explored that ‘The University of Newcastle,Australia’ is the top institution that produced highest publications followed by ‘King Abdulaziz University’.all these top five institution contributed 4.08% output of total.

Table 5  shows that ‘Karnalim,O’ is the most prolific author with contribution of seven publications on plagiarism followed by Hu,G. on second number.

6. Top Five  Languages

Table 6 shows that English is the top language which contribute on this topic. It shows that English is most preferred international language.This language contributed 93.19% of total publications followed by Spanish with 3.27% contribution.Top five language produced a total of 98.55% reserch output on this subject.

Table 7 shows the top five journals which had published 9.17% share of total publications.Accountability in Research was most preferred source for publication followed by Journal of Academic Ethics.

8.  Top Five Most Cited Paper

Table  8 presents that “Impact on the virtual learning environment due to covid-19” authored by Martín C.T., Acal C., Honrani M.E., Estrada Á.C.M published in 2021 received highest citations (58) followed by the publication of ‘Jing N., Liu Q., Sugumaran V’ with 33 publications.

Conclusion This paper presents an overview of publications output on Plagiarism. It is found that English is thew most contributed language in this field during the study.It was observed that United Kingdom was on top in countrywise output.India also appeared second top country in research output on this subject.The study provides a map of research productivity on this subject of top five countries,languages,institutions,keywords, Authors, sources etc.
