Abstract |
Sustainable development can be defined as
development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising
the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs.18 Sustainable development is an organizing
principle for meeting human development goals while also sustaining the ability
of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services on
which the economy and society depend. The Sustainable Development Goals, also
known as the Global Goals, are a call from the United Nations to all countries
around the world. Sustainable development is referred to as
the idea that human beings should sustain by meeting their basic needs, while
also making sure that the future generations are able to meet their basic needs.19 Universalize access to basic services such
as water, sanitation and sustainable energy. Support the generation of
development opportunities through inclusive education and decent work20. Foster
innovation and resilient infrastructure, creating communities and cities able
to produce and consume sustainably. Components of sustainable
development: While discussing the components of sustainable development different
criteria have been used depending on the context and the levels of decision
making. The components are broadly divided into three elements namely social,
economic and environmental. The UN expressed their concern over
a healthy and safe environment and some goals were made The concept of sustainable
development formed the basis of the United Nations Conference on
Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The summit
marked the first international attempt to draw up action plans and strategies
for moving towards a more sustainable pattern of development. |

Introduction | Sustainable development is an organizing
principle for meeting human development goals while also sustaining the ability
of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services on
which the economy and society depend. The Sustainable Development Goals, also
known as the Global Goals, are a call from the United Nations to all countries
around the world. Sustainable development is referred to as
the idea that human beings should sustain by meeting their basic needs, while
also making sure that the future generations are able to meet their basic needs.[18] The UN emerged the need of 17 Sustainable
Development Goals that later on formedthe following 17 Sustainable Development
Goals. These Goals helped the government and various countries to achieve the necessary
objectives it stated and held. |

Review of Literature | Sustainable development is important
because it integrates economic progress, social equity, and environmental stewardship 1.We can ensure
a balanced and prosperous future for all by embracing Sustainable practices .It
allows us to preserve the environment,
protect biodiversity, mitigate climate change, eradicate poverty,
promote social inclusivity, and foster long- term economic growth 2. Importance
of sustainable development are (i) using
the available resources judiciously and
working towards maintaining the ecological balance, (ii) To prevent degradation
of the environment and laying emphasis on protecting the environment.(iii)Toprevent
overexploitation of resources.3.Ecosystem services are the benefits people get
from nature. Tangible benefits include supplies of food and freshwater,
flood mitigation and improvements to water quality. Less tangible benefits
include contributions to cultures[5]. Sustainable development is crucial because
it is essential for the long- term prosperity of business and economies
Sustainable business practices can increase efficiency, reduce costs, and
improve customer loyalty. In contrast, Sustainable economic development can
create new jobs and promote innovation. [6] |

Result and Discussion |
Sustainable Development
is an organizing principle that aims to meet human development goals while also
enabling natural systems to provide necessary natural resources and and
ecosystem services to humans7. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to
transform our world[8]. Sustainability is important for preserving our planet and
natural resources like water and air. Building a sustainable future and
cultivating Sustainable ways of living will reduce pollution and protect
habitats of plants and animals [9]. Vision The
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were
adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end
poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and
prosperity. The 17 SDGs
are integrated—they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in
others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental
sustainability. The development goals not only highlighted
the need of the hour but also gave a vision to the world for a better
ecosystem, living and working. Following are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals are: Sustainable Development Goals GOAL 1: No Poverty There is a strong bidirectional link between poverty and disability. Poverty may cause disability through malnutrition, poor healthcare, and dangerous living conditions18. Create sound policy frameworks at the national, regional and international levels, based on pro-poor and gender-sensitive development strategies, to support accelerated investment in poverty eradication actions.[21] Ensure significant mobilization of resources from a variety of sources including the enhanced development and coordination, cooperation and adequate facilities. GOAL 2: Zero Hunger The Zero Hunger SDG focuses on finding sustainable solutions to stop world hunger. The goals of the Zero Hunger initiative are to end hunger and make sure that enough nutritious foods are available to people by 2030. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to end all forms of hunger and malnutrition by 2030, making sure all people – especially children and the more vulnerable – have access to sufficient and nutritious food all year round.[14] GOAL 3: Good Health and Well Being Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being at all ages is essential to sustainable development. More efforts are needed to fully eradicate a wide range of diseases and address many different persistent and emerging health issues. By focusing on providing more efficient funding of health systems, improved sanitation and hygiene, and increased access to physicians, significant progress can be made in helping to save the lives of millions[25]. GOAL 4: Quality Education Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all".Quality education allows people to break the cycle of poverty; it helps to reduce inequalities and reaches gender equality; It enables people to lead a healthier and more sustainable life and it is essential to foster tolerance and peaceful societies[26]. GOAL 5: Gender Equality Women and girls, everywhere, must have equal rights and opportunity, and be able to live free of violence and discrimination. Women's equality and empowerment is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, but also integral to all dimensions of inclusive and sustainable development.[27] GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation Sustainable Development Goal 6 is about "clean water and sanitation for all". It is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, the official wording is: "Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all."[28] GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy Sustainable Development Goal 7 is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. It aims to "Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all." The environment provides a series of renewable and non-renewable energy sources i.e. solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, biofuels, natural gas, coal, petroleum, uranium[18]. GOAL 8: Decent work and Economic Growth Sustainable Development Goal 8 is about "decent work and economic growth" and is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals which were established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.Promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, and encourage the formalization and growth of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises, including through access to financial services. SDG Indicator 8.3.1.[29]. GOAL 9: Industry Innovation and Infrastructure Sustainable Development Goal 9 is about "industry, innovation and infrastructure" and is one of the 17 Sustainable Developmental Goals adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. SDG 9 aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. Industrialization drives economic growth, creates job opportunities and thereby reduces income poverty. Innovation advances the technological capabilities of industrial sectors and prompts the development of new skills[30]. GOAL 10: Reduced Inequality Ensure equal opportunity and reduce inequalities of outcome, including by eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices and promoting appropriate legislation, policies and action in this regard. To ensure that people everywhere have access to essential services and social protection, the UN has called for an extraordinary scale-up of international support and political commitment, including funding through the UN COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund which aims to support low- and middle-income countries[18]. GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities The official mission of SDG 11 is to "Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable".Building inclusive, resilient, competitive and sustainable cities and communities is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, and eliminating extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity at the local, regional, and national countries[18]. GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and Production Sustainable Development Goal 12, titled "responsible consumption and production", is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015. The official wording of SDG 12 is "Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns".Responsible consumption means that buyers, whether involved in the economy as a private or public entity, or as citizen consumers must make their choice taking into account environmental impacts at all stages of the product life cycle (for both goods and services)". according to the definition used by ADEME. GOAL 13: Climate Action Goal 13 calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. It is intrinsically linked to all 16 of the other Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. To address climate change, countries adopted the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius. The goal aims to mobilize US$100 billion annually by 2020 to address the needs of developing countries to both adapt to climate change and invest in low-carbon development[18]. GOAL 14: Life Below Water Sustainable Development Goal 14 is about "Life below water" and is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015. The official wording is to "Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development". They help with the breakdown and removal of waste and pollution, and their coastal ecosystems act as buffers to reduce damage from storms. Maintaining healthy oceans supports climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts[31]. GOAL 15: Life on Land Sustainable Development Goal 15 is about "Life on land." One of the [17] Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015, the official wording is: "Protect, restore and promote. Goal 15 focuses specifically on managing forests sustainably, halting and reversing land and natural habitat degradation, successfully combating desertification and stopping biodiversity loss.[24] GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions Sustainable Development Goal 16 is about "peace, justice and strong institutions."Take a genuine interest in what your government is doing. Raise awareness in your community about the realities of violence and the importance of peaceful and just societies, and identify how you can pursue the SDGs in your daily life. Exercise your right to hold your elected officials to account.[22] GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal i. Strengthen domestic resource mobilisation, including through international support. ii. Mobilise additional financial resources from multiple sources. iii. Attain long-term debt sustainability through coordinated policies aimed at fostering debt financing.[23] |

Conclusion |
Sustainable
Development is not just about environment but also about the living style of
people although it emphasizes on the environmental aspect a lot but it also portrays
awareness towards a healthy ecosystem.Sustainable development always encourages us to
conserve and enhance our resources, by gradually changing the manners in
which we develop and use technologies. The Earth has enough resources to meet
our present and future needs for development if we use them economically. All
Countries should meet their basic needs of employment, food, energy, water, and
sanitation. Everybody is rightful to a healthy, safe, and clean environment.Sustainable
development can be defined as development that meets the needs of the present
generation without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs[18]. |
